Integrated and Ad Hoc Reporting from Almac

Almac has added new integrated and ad hoc reporting capabilities to its offerings for the clinical trial market. A single Web site houses data and reports from its affiliated companies, Almac Clinical Technologies and Almac Clinical Services. Reports on the Web site offer drug and trial information, and include reports with integrated data from both companies. In addition, a new ad hoc reporting tool enables users to create their own custom reports using a simple report creation tool.

AdenoSilence Vectors for RNAi Delivery

Millipore’s first round of adenoviral shRNA expression vector reagents targeting the human druggable genome includes the major protein classes amenable to small-molecule intervention. AdenoSilence vectors allow for single-step delivery of shRNA through the direct application of the virus supernatants onto a primary cell culture. AdenoSilence reagents typically silence the gene of interest for more than ten days.

Molecular Tools for Drug Discovery

Applied Biosystems launched a new series of TaqMan Gene Signature Panels for accelerating drug discovery research. TaqMan provides over 2,400 unique assays to detect polymorphisms in 220 genes that code for various drug metabolism enzymes and drug transporters. Researchers can simultaneously observe and determine the expression level of genes that encode proteins involved with critical cellular functions, identify potential new drug targets, validate known targets, and screen samples during drug development. Significant proteins addressed by the new gene signature panels include G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). The TaqMan array’s micro fluidic cards allow researchers to perform 384 simultaneous real-time PCR reactions. Determining the function of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, enables researchers to test mechanisms that regulate the transport of substances across the cell membrane, mediate export of drugs in tumor cells, and affect drug resistance.

Detect Drug Effects on Tubular Tissues

Biopta’s PM-1 is an automated perfusion and wire myograph incorporating the company’s Perf-Exion optical technology, which allows detection of the external and internal dimensions of tubular biological structures. PM-1 is designed to capture information from isolated blood vessels. Up to four individually regulated tissues provide information on drug potency, and efficacy from sensitive measurement of changes in tissue diameter, flow, pressure, and force production.

BeadChips to Access Genetic Variations

Illumina, Inc. announced the next BeadChips in its Infinium product family that profiles over one million diverse genetic variants. The Human 1M BeadChip combines a level of content for both whole-genome (WG) and copy number variation (CNV) analysis, along with additional, high-value genomic regions of interest on a single microarray chip. The Human 1M BeadChip combines higher tagSNP coverage than the HumanHap650Y BeadChip, adding several hundred thousand individually-selected SNPs in genes and functional areas. The introduction of the Human 450S BeadChip will enable customers using Illumina’s HumanHap550 BeadChip to extend their genetic studies to include the one million content level. The Human 1M and Human 450S BeadChips are powered by Illumina’s Infinium Assay, providing high density genomic coverage, and intelligent probe selection.
